Cell Phone Location Evidence

October 3, 2023 //  by Sarah Olson//  Leave a Comment

Live webinar presented by Larry Daniel
October 5, 2023, 12:30pm
Approved for 90 min of CLE credit (technology credit)

Cell phone location evidence is used frequently by law enforcement to show a suspect’s location at the time of a crime. This training will provide attorneys and investigators with background information on cellular technology, carrier stored data, how experts obtain records, and accuracy and validity of those records.

The presentation, while technically based, is presented to offer an easy-to-understand introduction to the science of cell phone-based location evidence. Both cell tower location evidence and other cell phone location-tracking evidence will be covered including newer technologies that impact cell phone location evidence, such as round-trip time (RTT), precision data, and 5G networks.

Registration:
This program is part of the 2023 IDS Forensic Science Education Series. The webinars will be presented monthly and are free to attend. Attorneys who want CLE credit for attending will be billed $3.50 per credit hour by the State Bar. Use this link to register for all webinars in the series and attend any that are of interest.

Presenter:
Larry Daniel, Technical Director for the Digital Forensics practice at Envista, has over twenty years of experience in digital forensics. Larry holds nine certifications and has qualified and testified as an expert in computer forensics, cell phone forensics, GPS forensics, cellular technology, and call detail records analysis over 75 times in 16 states and 17 federal districts.

He is co-author of the book, “Digital Forensics for Legal Professionals” 2011, Syngress and is the sole author of the book, “Cell Phone Location Evidence for Legal Professionals” 2017, Academic Press.

Larry provides training via presentations and continuing legal education dozens of times each year, to attorneys, prosecutors, judges, and law enforcement.
