Millions of women in the U.S. experience brain injury as a result of intimate partner violence (IPV). Some survivors later become involved in the criminal legal system. The presentation offers education to legal actors and advocates as to the types, prevalence, impacts, and collateral consequences of brain injuries experienced by criminalized survivors as influenced by biological sex, social, and structural factors. Through education, improved practices, and expert testimony, new and dynamic findings as to brain injuries in women should inform courtroom actors and promote more just outcomes in criminal proceedings.
