The program examines current issues for neurodiverse individuals dealt with in global criminal justice systems worldwide. The papers presented are from established academics, medical experts and practicing lawyers who seek to frame these issues and offer proposals for change to improve the treatment of neurodiverse individuals. The event explores distinct legal issues in the criminal justice system for adults, children, and young persons through a neurodiversity lens.
The event seeks to bring interdisciplinary perspectives together in one place to discuss their vulnerability in criminal trials, neurodivergence, ostracism in the criminal justice system, legal assistance in the police station and disability. The event will build upon and add to the existing literature in this field, offering an in-depth examination of the international, albeit similar, challenges faced by neurodiverse individuals within the sphere of global criminal justice. With contributions from the USA, New Zealand, Europe, Africa and the United Kingdom, speakers will discuss what it is like for neurodiverse individuals in the police station, at trial, sentencing, custody and community.
