Great trial result from working with Expert Services Project

April 23, 2026 //  by Sarah Olson//  Leave a Comment

Attorneys handling complex cases know that expert insight can be the difference between a strong defense and a missed opportunity. Yet securing qualified forensic expertise quickly and efficiently can be a challenge. For Assistant Public Defenders and IDS Managed Assigned Counsel attorneys, the Expert Services Project helps bridge that gap by providing streamlined access to trusted professionals for adult and now juvenile cases.

By completing the online form linked here, attorneys can connect with experts early, whether for guidance on technical evidence, support with motions, or preparation for trial. Experts are available in the fields of drug chemistry, toxicology, pharmacology, and digital evidence.

For many attorneys, the impact has been significant. Assistant Public Defender Barbara Bathke shared that access to experts has “truly changed the way I practice,” helping strengthen cross-examination and overall case strategy. Assistant Public Defender Kate Bock noted how the program provides clarity at critical moments, especially when navigating complex lab results or scientific evidence. With rapid connections—often within 24 hours—attorneys can quickly determine whether expert assistance is needed and how best to proceed.

In some cases, expert input can be outcome-determinative. As Bock described, a clear, well-prepared expert report helped demonstrate that key evidence did not support impairment. In that case, the judge noted that the expert’s report was “the deciding factor” in a not guilty verdict. Just as importantly, the program saves time and reduces administrative burden, eliminating the need to independently locate experts or navigate motions for funding.

The Expert Services Project makes high-quality expert assistance more accessible. If you are an Assistant Public Defender or MAC Attorney and your case involves technical or scientific evidence, consider using the Expert Services Project to find your next expert. Early expert involvement can sharpen your strategy, clarify complex issues, and help you achieve better outcomes for your clients.
