The Forensic Book Club is starting its second book and will meet virtually to discuss on Feb. 10 at 7 pm. We hope you’ll join us. We are a group of defenders, scientists, one prosecutor, one ombudsperson, and a judge! The next book we’ll be discussing is Blood, Powder, and Residue: How Crime Labs Translate Evidence into Proof by Beth Bechky.
The book is a behind-the-scenes look at the work of crime lab scientists. The book looks at what motivates these scientists and what challenges they face. The author spent 18 months completing fieldwork in a crime lab in a major metropolitan area to inform this work. Even if a workplace ethnography hasn’t been on your reading list for a while, this one is sure to give insight into the important analysis of the scientific evidence in our cases.
If you’re interested in joining the book club, please complete this form, and I’ll send you the meeting link.
The book club is a friendly, casual place for any attorney, legal professional, or expert to learn and share their perspective. No prior experience with the topic is needed. No continuing education credit is being offered. Even if you can’t attend our next session, if you complete the form you’ll get information about upcoming meetings.
We look forward to reading with you!
