Are you looking for an investigator who can find and interview witnesses, review evidence, gather and document additional evidence, examine the crime scene and its investigation, and conduct background checks on witnesses? IDS has created a directory of licensed private investigators who are available to assist on your criminal cases.

Compiling information on investigators who have previously worked on criminal cases, we have created a directory of investigators from across the state. Investigator Beth Winston who has worked as a public defender investigator, capital defender investigator, and in private practice managed the project and compiled the information in a way that makes it easy for defenders to access. Attorneys can search for an investigator based on location, area of expertise, and languages spoken.
We at IDS hope that by centralizing this information and making it searchable, it will be easier for attorneys to find investigators for their cases. Inclusion in the directory does not mean that IDS has approved of a particular investigator. Each attorney is responsible for assessing whether a particular investigator is the appropriate investigator for a specific case. Attorneys should do their own due diligence to evaluate the investigator. This directory is designed simply as a starting point for you to find more information about investigators available to work on criminal defense cases. Expert fee and expense policies and information about applying for funding for an investigator are available here.
If you know someone who should be included in the Private Investigator Directory, please share this link with them so that they can be considered for addition to the directory. We will continuously work to expand our coverage to better serve attorneys and their clients across the state. With investigators specializing in 81 of NC’s 100 counties and additional investigators who are willing to work statewide, we hope this resource will help you find the investigator you need.
