On Friday, August 30, 2019, a group of 20 attorneys, investigators, and law students visited the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). The group met with Dr. Michelle Aurelius, who became the Chief Medical Examiner following Dr. Deborah Radisch’s retirement earlier this summer. The group also met with Brad Brecher, the Agency Legal Consultant for the OCME. Attorneys who have questions about discovery or other issues related to the OCME can contact Brad.
The group learned about forensic pathology by observing an autopsy. Dr. Aurelius explained the procedures that are followed and answered questions from the group.
Indigent Defense Services thanks the staff of the OCME for this educational opportunity. Improving our knowledge of death investigation helps us to better understand the evidence that will be presented in our cases. We appreciate your office taking the time to train us about the important work that you do!
