There will be an autopsy viewing and tour of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh for defense attorneys on Friday, August 30th, 2019 starting at 8:45 am. Attorneys and defense investigators will have an opportunity to witness an autopsy and then engage in a guided tour of the OCME and its toxicology lab. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet Dr. Michelle Aurelius, the new Chief Medical Examiner. Dr. Deborah Radisch retired this month.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about postmortem investigation, the autopsy process, and how the OCME processes a case to provide information to criminal justice system stakeholders. The viewing and tour typically last around 3 hours, but timing may change depending on the length of the autopsy and the amount of questions.
As of July 18, the tour is at capacity, so if you would like to attend, you can email sarah.r.olson@nccourts.org to be added to the wait list. Prior to the tour, additional logistical information will be sent to those who are registered.
