Overview of a Forensic Autopsy CLE

The Mecklenburg County Public Defender’s Office is hosting a free to attend live webcast of an Overview of a Forensic Autopsy. Pending approval by the NC State Bar, this CLE is for 1.5 general hours and the NC State Bar will charge you $3.50 per hour [$5.25 total] if you need CLE credit. Those that need CLE credit must fill out the post CLE survey to report their attendance. If you would like to attend, please register at the below link.

When: November 5, 2021 at 12:30-2pm. You will receive a link the day before to access the webcast through Cisco Webex and you may log on by 12:25.

Where: Anyplace you have internet access

What: Dr. Christena Roberts will discuss how the Medical Examiner receives jurisdiction to investigate a death. She will cover the entire process from death to autopsy to release of the body. She will discuss the items retained at autopsy, what testing is done, and the documents created and are available after autopsy. Finally, the handout “What To Look For, What To Ask For” will be reviewed. 

Who: Dr. Christena Roberts completed her medical training at the University of South Florida in Tampa.  Her Anatomic Pathology training was at both University of Florida and University of South Florida.   As she entered medical school with the intent to go to into the field of Forensic Pathology, she had concentrated studies in Forensics during her residency. Dr. Roberts completed her Forensic Pathology Fellowship at the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office in Tampa Florida.

Dr. Roberts practiced as an Associate Medical Examiner for District 5 in Florida. While there, she was involved in child death review teams and speaking to Family Services concerning elder abuse. Dr. Roberts served as an Assistant Chief Medical Examiner for the Commonwealth of Virginia in the Roanoke office.   Dr. Roberts currently operates CJ Consulting of America (LLC), a company specializing in forensic pathology consulting in criminal and civil cases and performing private autopsies.
