I have extensive experience conducting forensic psychological evaluations for use in federal and state courts. My work has included competency to stand trial (capacity to proceed), criminal responsibility (mental state at the time of the offense), violence risk, sexual dangerousness, violence and sexual recidivism risk, sentencing mitigation, substance use, court-ordered mental health evaluations, psychodiagnostic evaluations, parental capacity evaluations, and child custody evaluations. To date, I have conducted, co-authored, or supervised more than 150 forensic reports intended for use in Texas, North Carolina, and federal courts across a broad range of criminal and civil matters. I also was a contract psychologist for the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations Behavioral Threat Assessment Unit, working with a team and authoring reports aimed at evaluating and mitigating risk for those exhibiting warning signs for being on the pathway towards potential mass violence. My family law experience includes child custody evaluation, parental capacity evaluations, and more than 65 psychological and mental health evaluations completed or supervised in the context of custody litigation. I have been retained as an expert witness in multiple cases, and have testified as an expert witness in North Carolina. My evaluations are grounded in current scientific research, evidence-based assessment methods, and objective forensic practice, with opinions communicated in a clear, legally relevant, and defensible manner.
