With the recent opening of the Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Laboratory, attorneys need additional information about the lab reports produced by this lab. The Union County Public Defender’s Office, the Union County Bar, and NC Indigent Defense Services are offering a 90-minute webinar for attorneys handling DWI cases in Union County.
Gas Chromatography and Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry are powerful analytical tools for separating and identifying the components of forensic samples. This presentation will explain how these methods work and their forensic use in testing blood for the presence of alcohol or controlled substances. The discussion will include case examples and any limitations to the method that attorneys should be aware of. Screening methods including immunoassay tests and QTOF and how these methods work, and possible interferences and challenges to using screening methods will also be covered.
The presentation will include introductions to dose response curves, pharmacokinetics, interpreting qualitative drug test results, drug tolerance, and biological variation. Discussion of these topics will assist attorneys in understanding how to interpret the results of toxicology testing in their cases.
