Inside the State Crime Lab: Forensic Testing Explained Webinars

July 17, 2025 //  by Sarah Olson//  Leave a Comment

For the second half of the year, the IDS Forensic Science Education Series will take a deeper look into the testing performed at the State Crime Lab. In each session, an analyst from the State Crime Lab will present about the testing performed in their section of the lab.

We hope that the sessions will be interactive! The lab would love for you to send in questions ahead of time to ensure they cover the topics that are relevant to you. Please use this link to submit your questions. You can use the link more than once and your question will be asked in the session if the presenter doesn’t cover it in their presentation.

New for this series:
We won’t be recording this series of presentations because their shelf life isn’t that long. Once the lab adopts updated procedures, anything recorded could become out of date. So please plan to attend the live sessions! Also, we are moving to a new “webinar” format instead of the “meeting” format that you’re used to. We hope this ends any “hot mike” issues where folks become inadvertently unmuted. Participants can still be unmuted to ask questions, but you must raise your hand and then I will unmute you.

No need to sign up again if you already registered!
If you have attended the forensic webinars previously, you are already signed up for the remainder of the programs this year. You do not need to register again! You should have received an updated webinar link in the form of a calendar invite on July 16. Our Communications Specialist Amanda Bunch will be emailing out her reminders with the link before each session.

If you have never attended or have a colleague who would like to join, you can register using this link. Only one registration is needed for the entire series. The webinars are free to attend.

Connecting to the webinars:
NC criminal defense and parent attorneys, investigators and mitigation specialists who register for the series will receive an email from Amanda Bunch with the webinar link prior to each session. The webinars will be hosted on WebEx.

Accessibility is important to us. If you have a disability and need an accommodation to participate in this program, please contact Sarah Olson, sarah.r.olson@nccourts.org, 919-354-7217.
