With more than 50% of individuals in our nation’s jails and prisons having a substance use history, it is critical that the defense community as well as all other legal system professionals understand the ways in which substance use impacts the brain. Dr. Amy Fitzpatrick, a board-certified addiction medicine specialist, will share how opioids impact key brain functions like memory and decision-making, as well as information on how this impacts a person’s experience within the legal system. Presenter: Amy Fitzpatrick, MD, is board-certified in both internal medicine and addiction medicine. She works in the outpatient Office Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT) clinic at Boston Medical Center and attends on the inpatient Addiction Consult Service (ACS).
