The NY Legal Aid Society DNA Unit is excited to present its 7th annual Questioning Forensics conference virtually on the afternoons of March 30-April 1! The conference is FREE and will award CLE credit (check your local jurisdiction rules etc)!
This year’s conference, Foundations of DNA Defense: Unpacking the 2021 NIST Report, will center on the report which rocked the forensic DNA world: the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) draft Mixture Foundation Review and how we can use it to fight for our clients.
Our schedule is forthcoming, but our speakers will include Prof. Maneka Sinha who will deliver our first Barbara Byrne Keynote on reimagining forensics; Drs. Hari Iyer and Steven Lund from NIST on DNA mixtures factor space; Dr. John Buckleton & Richard Wivell from ESR on response to the NIST Report; Cynthia Cale on transfer; Prof. Andrea Roth on admissibility issues; Prof. Natalie Ram on IGG; Dr. Marc Canellas on IEEE standards; Dr Greg Hampikian & Tiffany Roy on testimony errors; Julie Fry on State v. Pickett; Kelley Kulick on investigating transfer and our very own DNA Unit and HDTF members!! We also look forward to announcing the recipient of this year’s Magnus Mukuro Award for Integrity in Forensic Science when the official agenda is posted.
